Today is the first day of my second week off. I know this because I just looked at a calendar. Otherwise, not being in school, I have no reason or inclination to keep track of silly things like dates and times. This is also the first summer I have “not worked” since I was 15. Allow me to explain why I used quotation marks around the words “not worked.” Plain and simple–A room full of 30 high school juniors is easier to manage than one two year old. No bullshit. Thus my time off, is truly time ON. On the clock, round the clock. Not that I’m complaining! I am loving this summer stay-at-home-mom gig so far! But I tell you what, those who say SAHMs don’t work don’t know squat. At the end of week one, I had two pulled muscles and I desperately needed an early bedtime. With a story and a lullaby please.
Toddlers are no joke. That being said, I have renewed my profound respect for Zac’s regular day sitter. For she is super-woman.
So anyway, in an effort to avoid stammering and offering generic responses in the fall when asked how our summer was, I am trying to keep track of all the fun things we are doing. Outings, activities, crafts, etc. I tried a daily “activity journal,” and I lasted three days. Lame-o. But I am pleased to report that so far, we have had a few park dates, lots of water play (pool, sprinkler, water table etc.), and plenty of teeball and kickball fun in the yard. We have used up two cans of sunscreen. We have attended two birthday parties and had one picnic. And hubby and I even snuck off on a date night last night to a concert! And we’ve got a family beach trip on the horizon! The Perrys are BUS-Y. And we like it that way. I feel so blessed it should be illegal.
This is all I have time to write for now! Zac will be up any minute now from his afternoon siesta, and then its GO GO GO till bedtime! I hope all of my other teacher friends are having a fulfilling “break.” And if you’ve got little ones, I know it’s not a “break” of any kind! I also know you’re loving every minute of it.
Love and SPF 30,
